Parents, disabilities and sex education
Many of you may not know, but I spent most of my professional life working as a therapist for autistic children. And so I’ve worked closely with a lot of families.
The reality is, seggs and intimacy can look very different when you’re parenting a child with disabilities, and the usual “date night” advice that’s offered doesn’t always cut it.
Exhautions, caregiving, medical routines, fear, guilt, it all shows up in the bedroom. But that doesn’t mean intimacy is gone. It just means you need more support and not shame.
I love this YouTube video (check out link for my YT in my bio) because I wanted to highlight the intimacy challenges that caregivers and parents go through when caring for a child or an individual that requires a lot of support.
I’ve done some content on the seggs and intimate lives of individuals with disabilities and highlighting how they are also seggsual beings but maybe do it or need it a little differently than what able bodied people are used to.
But I think it’s important to highlight the challenges parents and caregivers experiences when it comes to their intimate lives.
Content like “how to spice up your intimate life” may not always cut it. I don’t know what the solutions are yet, but this video was more of a “I HEAR YA, and I SEE YA” kinda message.
