A women's rope ceremony in Mexico

Travel ✈️

While I was in Mexico 🇲🇽 , I saw an opportunity to try something new: a small, intimate women’s rope ceremony. 🪢

I’ve been tied up before and absolutely loved it. But suspension? That was a whole new ball game.

I thought it would teach me how to surrender. Turns out, it taught me that I wasn’t ready to surrender yet.😬

Looking at these photos, I look like some serene religious figure ascending to enlightenment 🤣

What was actually happening:

✨The room was approximately 7,000 degrees.
✨I was sweating through every pore of my body.
✨My heart was racing.
✨I could feel the blood rushing to my head.
✨I was trying very hard to look calm, cute, and mysterious.😅

I went in feeling confident. Maybe a little too confident.

I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I wanted to be the adventurous girl. The chill girl. The girl who could handle it.

My body had other ideas.

I could feel my heart racing. I could feel the blood rushing to my head. I was focusing on my breathing and trying to stay calm, but eventually I had to admit something:

I wasn’t ready. And honestly? That was a surprisingly difficult thing to accept.

Part of me was proud for trying something new.

Part of me was frustrated that I couldn’t just “push through.”

But looking back, that’s exactly where the lesson was.

✨ Lesson #1: Curiosity and readiness are not the same thing. Just because you’re excited to try something doesn’t mean your mind and body are ready for it today.

✨ Lesson #2: You don’t fail when you hit a boundary. You succeed when you respect it.

✨ Lesson #3: Surrender requires self-trust. And sometimes self-trust means listening when your body says “not today.”

✨ Lesson #4: Being tied up isn’t passive. You still have to communicate, advocate for yourself, and stay connected to what your body is telling you.

The biggest thing suspension taught me wasn’t how to be tied up. It was how much self-awareness is required before you let someone hold that much power over you.

Also, major props to the ladies running the ceremony. While my nervous system was having a full-blown crisis, they were calm, supportive, and wonderful!
